Hurricane Relief Efforts by GSAPP Alum
Dr. Roy Aranda has been actively involved in relief efforts to help people affected by the hurricanes for years. He recently organized a fundraiser for victims of Hurricane Maria at Verdi's of Westbury and helped evacuees from Puerto Rico who have come to NY through the Red Cross at the Julia D. Burgos Performance and Arts Center in Manhattan. To improve the public’s understanding of the impact of traumatic events, Dr. Aranda has attended several shows and interviews to discuss PTSD, posttraumatic growth, and resilience after traumatic events. On December 1, 2017, he will hold an event at Fordham University to present the psychological impact of natural disasters and mass acts of violence in Hispanics. In recognition of his significant contributions to psychology and community, Dr. Roy Aranda has received various awards this year. He was honored as a “Prolific Community Activist”, was nominated for membership as a Distinguished Fellow in the Psychology Academy of the National Academies of Practice, won the President’s Award “for outstanding dedication and innovative leadership in charting the future of psychology in the State of New York”, and received The Allen V.
