Directed by Brian Chu, Ph.D. the Youth Anxiety and Depression Clinic (YAD-C) is a specialty clinic within the GSAPP Psychological Clinic. Opened in September, 2005 YAD-C specializes in providing assessment and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for youth with anxiety and depression related problems between the ages of 8 and 16. The clinic is open to the Rutgers and surrounding communities and offers low-cost, sliding-scale fee services.
What is YAD-C?
- An outpatient specialty program at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology of Rutgers University.
- We provide assessment and talk therapy for youth with anxiety and mood problems between the ages of 8 and 16.
- As part of a major training university, YAD-C is a research clinic that employs treatment methods with the best research support for their effectiveness.
Who is right for YAD-C?
- Has your child been sad, down, blue, or irritable more than usual?
- Does your child seem withdrawn and disinterested in things they liked before?
- Does your child have pervasive, persistent worries about multiple topics, such as school performance, family, health, or the future?
- Does your child have difficulty separating from home, parents, or loved ones?
- Is your child fearful or easily embarrassed in social situations?
Treatment Philosophy
- Cognitive-behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other effective therapies.
- Therapy is time-limited and goal-focused.
- Therapy focuses on teaching coping skills to manage mood and anxiety problems.
- Individual and family-based therapy.
Research
- Research is an integral part of YAD-C services.
- We use assessment and treatment practices with research support.
- Participating families complete assessments as part of ongoing evaluation of our services and the YAD-C program.
- Quite often, grants will allow YAD-C to invite families to participate in specific research projects for free or reduced fees.
