Dr. Shalonda Kelly served as a panelist on "Fresh Outlook", a weekly, one-hour talk-show which analyzes some of the key issues affecting the welfare of Americans.
About this episode:
The topic of this show was: Race Relations In America.
It's been called our national obsession. Some would say it's our most deeply rooted social problem. No matter how you frame it, race remains an inescapable fact of life in America.
What is the history of race in America? How and why does society define and categorize individuals according to race? How can these distinctions affect person's education, employment, socialization, and overall life conditions? What is racism? How does stereotyping work? What are some constructive ways of responding to and combating prejudice and discrimination? What obstacles prevent greater understanding? What stories and which voices are not being heard? Is there more than one America? Do we need a new way of talking about race? Does America still operate in terms of "Black and White?" What does it mean to be multiracial? What impact will changing demographics and immigration have on race relations? Can Americans of diverse backgrounds forge a common destiny?
On Fresh Outlook's foray into race relations, we'll explore some the major theories and realities surrounding race in these United States.
The host of the show, Anisa Mehdi and along with Dr. Shalonda Kelly are three other panel members, Dr. Roland V. Anglin, a policy maker with Rutgers, Liz Lorente with the NJ Record and Caroline Mitchell with YWCA Racial Justice Institute
