Don Morgan Psy.D., Rutgers

Don Morgan is the director of the Psychological Clinic at GSAPP and teaches in the clinical program. After graduating from the GSAPP in 1979, he was a National Institutes of Health Post-doctoral fellow at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He then spent fifteen years in full-time private practice working with children, adults, and couples. Dr. Morgan's work is influenced by postdoctoral studies in yoga and self-regulation practices, Eastern studies, cognitive behavioral therapy, and a certificate in psychoanalysis. His research background includes psychophysiological studies of hypnosis, attention, and pain control, and he is currently working with biofeedback and neurofeedback in clinical research. He has served as a consultant to Overlook Hospital's Department of Cardiology and developed its first stress management group program. He specializes in working with clients with chronic diseases who can benefit from holistic, integrative therapies, and continues to practice and supervise as a licensed psychologist.

Research Interests and Clinical Work

  1. Psychotherapy integration. Contemporary psychoanalytic theory and technique.
  2. The use of Eastern practices such as hatha yoga, breathing and meditation in psychotherapy and healing.
  3. Alternative, complementary and holistic healing practices and their place in the health care system. Impact of managed care on mental health practice. Private practice survival strategies.
