Validation of Concentration in Sport Psychology


Validation of concentration in sport psychology signifies that the student has successfully accomplished the minimal requirements, or beyond, for the Concentration. In order to obtain Concentration validation status--which includes a document and accompanying privileges that Dr. Charlie Maher will provide-- the individual GSAPP student, other doctoral student, or post doctoral student, must successfully complete at least all of the following, as minimal requirements:

  1. Both ( n=2) of the core courses that are delineated above in the prior section

  2. Supervised experience in sport psychology, in some appropriate setting as determined by the Director of the Concentration area.

  3. Guided Self Assessment in Sport Psychology Project-- developing a proposed plan for integrating sport psychology into professional practice; course credit can be provided but not needed; time is by arrangement with student.

  4. Other, as determined by Dr. Maher The validation of successful completion of concentrated study and fieldwork in sport psychology will include the following:
    • Detailed letter of accomplishments and competence
    • Complementary supervision when establishing a professional practice in sport psychology
    • Inclusion in Maher's data base of sport psychology personnel
    • Other, based on needs of and agreement with the student
