GSAPP Alumni and Dean’s Office Celebration Brunch, May 3rd, 2009

            On Sunday, May 3rd, current students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of GSAPP gathered to celebrate the achievements of distinguished alumni during the Alumni and Dean’s Office Celebration Brunch. The reception occurred in the Life Sciences Atrium on Busch campus. Attendees dined on an array of fruit, quiche and pasta whilst attending to the awards presentations.  Alumni Organization President Dr. Lucy Takagi commented, “The multitude of talents displayed by GSAPP students and alumni dazzled everyone who attended the event and left everyone yearning for more.”

     The event began with an introduction by Caroline Mossip, Psy.D., past –president of the GSAPP Alumni Organization, followed by welcoming remarks from Dr. Stanley Messer, Dean of GSAPP, and Dr. Takagi. Jeffrey Lackner, Psy.D., a 1992 graduate of GSAPP, was awarded the 2008 Peterson Prize for his numerous accomplishments as a leader in the field of behavioral medicine and an expert on irritable bowel syndrome.        Jeffrey Lackner
Dorothy Cantor Dorothy Cantor, Psy.D. ’76 was inducted into the Hall of Distinguished alumni, honoring among other accomplishments her leadership as the first woman clinician to serve as President of the APA and her proliferation of books and articles on women’s issues. 

Fred Rotgers Fred Rotgers, Psy.D., a 1983 GSAPP graduate, received the GSAPP Alumni Organization Distinguished Career Award for his work in the field of addictions treatment and research. Finally, David Panzer, Psy.D., ’84 was awarded the 2009 GSAPP Alumni Organization Grace K. Smith Meritorious Service Award for his dedication to both the alumni organization and current students at GSAPP. David Panzer

After the awards ceremony, Group Therapy, the GSAPP band directed by Dr. Geraldine Oades-Sese, opened the dance floor to the honorees and their partners. They continued entertaining with their instrumental and vocal talents while encouraging all to gather on the dance floor. Gavin Kenny, a current student in the Clinical Psy.D. program and singer in Group Therapy, stated, “The band was thrilled to perform at the alumni event again this year and to be received so warmly. It is such a treat for us to share music with the GSAPP community.”
