Research Interests and Clinical Work:
Promoting the following: psychologists' well-functioning; cognitive and social development over the life span; and peaceful methods of conflict resolution, domestically and internationally.
Milton Schwebel, professor emeritus, majored in philosophy as an undergraduate, and earned his Ph.D. in counseling psychology at Columbia University, followed by a three-year fellowship in psychotherapy at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health in New York. He was on the faculty of New York University's School of Education, as professor, department chair and associate dean for graduate studies, for eighteen years, dean of the Rutgers Graduate School of Education for ten years, founding chair of APA's Advisory Committee on Impaired Psychologists for eight years, and founding editor of the APA divisional publication, Peace and Conflict: Journal of Peace Psychology for seven years. He has been a consultant to school systems in the United States, NIMH, ministries of education abroad and UNESCO. His books include Assisting Impaired Psychologists, Promoting Cognitive Growth over the Life Span, Behavioral Science and Human Survival, Piaget in the Classroom, Guide to a Happier Family, Who Can Be Educated?, an recently, Remaking America's Three School Systems: Now Separate and Unequal.
